Blog Entry 1

The passage “Is America’s Food Safety?” written by Dr. Acheson talks about important issue which is food safety. The author explains that Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.) cooperate with state and private organizations to ensure safety of Unite States food. The F.D.A. uses new technology and employs hundreds of people in the whole America to fight with food contamination, as the author says. According to Acheson, many F.D.A. inspectors work on American borders and in other countries to prevent entering suspicious food to America. Moreover, the F.D.A. tries to teach ordinary consumers how to store and prepare food in the right way. I agree with the author that government institutions such as the F.D.A. work to protect our food, and to educate consumers.
First of all, many state institutions work “across the country” to protect our health by checking the food that enter our borders. As most people know there are strict rules about bringing food to the United States from other countries. As an immigrant from Poland, I miss the taste of food from my homeland. In America I cannot find the mushrooms that are only in my country, so I tried many times to bring in some dried mushrooms in my luggage when I was coming back from Poland. Unfortunately, every time I had to throw them out to the garbage because of the airport inspection. As Acheson says, “The F.D.A. has inspectors at our borders to prevent unsafe food from entering our country”. This means that the F.D.A. tries to avoid spreading food bacterias and chemicals from other countries in our food.
Second, as Acheson shows, the F.D.A. works to educate American consumers. The country organizations teach American people how to take care of their food, and where to eat without fear of food poisoning. For example, in New York City every restaurant put on their window mark that shows restaurant condition. Thanks to this grade we can know if the restaurant is clean and serve safe food. As the author says, many people “work hard every day to ensure the safety of America’s food” and American citizens.
Food is necessary for all people, so safety of “food supplies” should be important for all of as. In America we have the F.D.A. that controls the safeness of our food.  The F.D.A. employees work to find out, fixes, and prevents food problems, but they also make their efforts to educate American consumers. Their work affects not only the society but also health of every person in America.
